THANKSGIVING DEVOTION:

This week our class worked on leading a Thanksgiving devotion with his/her family. The devotion came home on Thursday. There is an orange devotion sheet, a bible story booklet, and journal pages. I hope you encourage your child and give them the opportunity to lead the devotion. What a great step in the children's faith development to lead a devotion and share the Bible with you.

Advent begins the Sunday after Thanksgiving December 1, 2024.
Advent is a time that we prepare for the birth of Jesus our Savior.
At school we will have an advent wreath to help us count down the weeks till Christmas.

Your child made a special Advent Candle Devotion Center for your family. Please share your child's excitement and find a special place in your home to put the Advent Candles and find time to do the devotions each week.

Advent Candle Devotion Center and Devotions came home in book bags on Wednesday! I hope you have seen them!

We will celebrate St. Nicholas in the classroom on Friday, December 6. This is a German tradition that I grew up with and I like to share with my students. Traditionally on the night of December 5 you put your shoes outside and St. Nicholas comes and fills your shoes with candy, fruit, and coins. I want to give you a heads up in case your child puts his/her shoes outside on Friday night.

1st/2nd Grade Advent Service

We have started working on our Advent Service. We are learning our special Bible verse part and songs.

-Our Advent services will be Wednesday, December 18.

-The students will be leading the Advent chapel during school at 10 am and they will need to wear their normal standardized dress.

-Students will also be leading the church service at the 7 pm service that evening. Please have your child arrive at 6:45 p.m. in the church basement. Teachers will not be in the church basement until this time, so please stay with your child until a teacher arrives. Students will need to be wearing standardized dress or church clothes. Please keep your child's coat and belongings with you because after the service you will be meeting your child in the narthex/welcome center area near the sanctuary.

-Your child will need to be in attendance at both services; parents and family are welcome to come to either service.

We have now had two COLD days I want to remind you that I use this rule to help us with coats... in the 30s you must wear a coat, in the 40s teacher's choice, in the 50s student's choice.

We do go outside unless the temperature or the real feel is below 10 degrees. Please make sure your child has appropriate winter wear. If there is every snow on the ground students may bring a separate pair of snow boots to change into so they may go in the snow. Only children with a different pair of boots for the snow will be able to go in the snow. Please send the boots in a plastic bag so that after recess the boots can go into the bag and the hall can stay dry. Please do not send snow pants to school, we don't have time to put the snow pants on and off. Thank you.

If your child has chapped lips please send chapstick for them to keep in their book bag to put on before and after recess.

Every day we close our day by singing a blessing to each other. This is November's blessing.
