I am so thankful to God for this school year. It has been a joy to share your children this year. I have seen them grow so much and feel blessed that I was given the opportunity to teach them. This is a class full of so many talented and unique personalities. Thank you for partnering with me this year.
I feel that your children and you have become part of my family. The last day is bitter sweet as I will never again have the same relationship with "my" kids this year like I had when they were in my class. I love them all dearly!
I will keep you in my heart and prayers. I am truly blessed and love coming to school everyday. To God all praise and glory.

Memory: we are done :)
Phonics: assessment for last unit of phonics
Spelling: no test this week
Grammar: synonyms and antonym
Writing: personal narrative
Math: review of past concepts and units
Look for a Brown Bag to come home on Monday.
The bag will include: special class picture frame art, first and last sentence, end of the year picture, and a small gift from me.
You will be amazed at how far their handwriting and sentences have come! Then just think about how they are writing paragraphs. It really it great!
No HOT LUNCH NEXT WEEK MAY 18-21!

1st-3rd Grade Musical Performance
at 1:45 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19th.
Families are welcome to attend either performance, both of which will take place in the church. Students are expected to attend both performances.
On May 19th, your child should wear standardized dress to school.
For the evening performance, please bring your child to Zion’s church basement at 5:45 p.m. They should wear uniform bottoms and a t-shirt (no collars) from home. That evening, Zion will provide each student with a special musical t-shirt, which they will put on over their own shirt for the performance. The t-shirt is theirs to keep after the musical!
After the evening performance is over, you may pick your child up in the back of church.
Teachers will not be in the church basement until 5:45, so please stay with your child until a teacher arrives.

Art Portfolios are coming home today.
I like to reuse the portfolios so PLEASE SEND BACK on MONDAY!
We made treat boxes today.
On Monday I plan to fill them with Skinny Pop Popcorn as part of our writing activity!
On Tuesday we will have completed 100 phonics lessons (each lesson is 2 days so really 200 lessons)! As a special celebration we will be having a Bubble Party. I plan to give each child a piece of sugar free Trident Bubble Gum to go with our learning.
Please let me know if there is a problem with Skinny Pop Popcorn or Trident gum for your child.
Field Day for the elementary classes is in the afternoon Wednesday, May 20. Students should wear tennis shoes with athletic bottoms and Zion/LHS spirit shirts. Wear sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses.

Thursday, MAY 21, LAST DAY OF SCHOOL
Students should still wear a school uniform for the last day.
We will have closing Chapel at 2:00 pm. Parents are welcome to attend and sit in the back section of church, just look for the signs. I do ask that our first grade class sits together during the service with me. Students will return to the classroom for final goodbyes .
Dismissal will be at normal time 2:55 pm!
Our class has worked so much on reading this school year. It is SO IMPORTANT to have your child continue reading and writing this summer. Based on last year's statistics, 69% of students going from K-1st grade experienced some summer slide in phonics test scores, 64% of students going from 1st -2nd experienced some summer slide in phonics test scores, and 58% of students going from 2nd- 3rd experiences some summer slide in phonics test scores.
Even just reading and/or writing 15 minutes a day will help prevent summer slide.
