We are learning to FOCUS, using our eyes, ears, and brain.  When we FOCUS we look at the person talking, we listen to what the person is saying, and we use our brain to think about what the person is telling us to do.  Sometimes we even repeat in our head what they said to remember.  This is something you could practice at home!

CENTER WORK
A center that was completed this week!

We worked on our centers this weeks beginning with last Friday to give us 5 days of center work.  If  centers for the week are completed by Friday, the students get fun Friday.  If centers are not done it needs to be completed before going to fun station.  If it is still not done the center will be sent home to finish over the weekend. Please check your child's Friday Folder to see if he/she has a center to CAR- complete and return next week.

A center that was NOT completed after two 20 minute centers.
I will send home the center materials and it will need to be completed at home.

You may also see Math CAR- Correct and Return papers, please make corrections and return to school on Monday.

We took our first spelling test today and you can see the test in your child's Friday Folder.  This was a practice test and I didn't record the grade.  I will begin recording the grades next week.  Please look at how the tests are graded.  The sentence must have all words spelled correctly, begin with a capital letter,  have no other capital letters, and end with an end mark.

I will not be marking reversals and capital letters on the sound and word portion but I will remind them to use lower case letters.  I will start marking these wrong once we have done a few tests.

You will notice on assessments that I will mark them P=proficient, working on grade level

NP= nearing proficient, not quite working on grade level
N=not proficient, working below grade level
Thank you for filling out the Reading Logs.  You may have seen your child "won" a book for a complete log.  If you didn't meet the goal this month you can try again in September.  I have additional work for you to do with phonics and reading.  This will count towards your 15 minutes of reading.  SEE PAPER IN FRIDAY FOLDER

I am so excited our class has brought in $42 for chapel offering.  We are working with a missionary to provide meals for kids in a village of Cambodia.  Look for more information soon!

It is exciting to see the students learn the routine of first grade.  I am very proud that they come in and do the morning work with few reminders.  I am also so pleased at how the students are working during independent reading centers.  Way to be hard workers and independent!
