December 1, 2017

Advent begins this Sunday.  Advent is a time that we prepare for the birth of Jesus our Savior.
At school we will have an advent wreath to help us count down the weeks till Christmas.
We will be doing special devotions as well.
IF YOU WOULD LIKE ADVENT DEVOTIONS TO DO AS A FAMILY
PLEASE EMAIL ME AND I WILL SEND SOME TO YOU!!

Advent Family Fun Night
Saturday, December 2nd from 4pm-5pm in the Church Fellowship Hall
Join us for a night of games, activities, stories, treats, and family fun as we learn about Advent together! This "open-house" style event will have stations for families to discover together what Advent is and why we celebrate it. Come for 15 minutes or the full hour and join us as we celebrate the coming of the birth of our King!

If you have questions, please contact Bethany Andrews at bandrews@zionharverster.org. We hope to see you there!

Zion's Lessons and Carols is this Sunday, December 3, it is another way to take sometime to focus on Jesus.  This service last about one hour and 15 minutes and focuses on Jesus coming into our dark world to bring light.  It is Sunday December 3 at 7:00 pm.

MEMORY WORK- Your child's speaking part for the Advent Service is now on the memory sheet in the Homework folder!  This needs to be learned at home!!

MEMORY WORK SWITCH:  I would like the class to learn their memory work for the Advent program for next week.  I have switched the memory that is due on the 8th and the 15th.

ADVENT SERVICE: We will lead worship WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 20 at 10 and 7.   We will begin practicing in the church for our service soon.  PLEASE  practice your child's individual part focusing in on loud and slow!

For the  morning service  the class should wear their uniforms and for the evening wear church clothes or uniform, no jeans please.

Please have your child to the church basement on Wednesday night at 6:50.

We will celebrate St. Nicholas in the classroom on Wednesday, December 6.  This is a German tradition that I grew up with and I like to share with my students.  Traditionally on the night of December 5 you put your shoes outside and St. Nicholas comes and fills your shoes with candy, fruit, and coins.  I want to give you a heads up in case your child puts his/her shoes outside on Wednesday night.

Christmas Party/Service Project

For our Christmas party on December 22 we will be baking cookies to give to others.  I will need about 8-10 helpers to help with the mixing, baking, and packaging. I need a lead parent to help set up at 8:45 while we are at chapel and be in charge of baking the cookies in the school kitchen (this parent will meet with Mrs. Boettcher the cook to learn how to work the ovens:)) I will also need a parent to go and get the pizzas from Little Caesars for us at 10:45.
Each child will get cookie gifts with a Christmas message to give away to neighbors, friends, and family members.  If you can help on Thursday, December 22,  9:00-11:00 please let me know.
Thanks for the added helping hands!

Look in the Friday Folder for this AWESOME OPPORTUNITY:
Zion's mortgage company will give us a $30,000 rebate if we sign up 100 student accounts.
Zion will PAY the $25 to start the account.
You may continue to add to the account
or just leave the $25 in the account and let it gain interest.
One person on the account must be a Zion member.
(either the custodian or the successor custodian)
Please see the sign-up sheet and if you are interested return the form only NO VOIDED CHECK NEEDED, by December 22.

As we enter into this busy time of year, may we remember to spend time as a family focused on Jesus.  He brings calm to our chaos!  Make family worship a priority and consider joining Zion's Sunday morning Bible Class at 9:30.

Join us Sunday at 9:30 am for stories and conversations to feed your soul.  Led by Rev. Monte Haun, this study will cover a different topic each week, and expose us to various points-of-view and Biblical connections, through
open-ended conversations.

This series will run through December 17.
