A Look Ahead:
Next week is a short week.  
There is no school on Thursday and Friday.

PARENT CONFERENCES ON THURSDAY - I look forward to meeting with you.  Please keep me on time by knocking on my door at your scheduled time!

Friday is our Fall Break. ENJOY!!

Memory: NO Memory
Religion: Apple Trinity Lesson
Reading and Writing:  We will focus on Apple themed activities 
We will read a biography of Johnny Appleseed and the we will write a statement sentence about Johnny Appleseed.
Spelling: THERE WILL BE NO SPELLING NEXT WEEK




Johnny Appleseed Day, Tuesday, October 16: Please have your child bring an APPLE to school on TUESDAY.  As we will be celebrating Johnny Appleseed Day.  Thank you to Erin Theobald, Sara Lombardo, and Meghan Owens for volunteering to help. We will start at 8:15-10:15ish.


Wednesday, October 17 is our Field Trip.
We will be doing a garden class about seeds, eating lunch, and doing a self tour at the MISSOURI BOTANICAL GARDEN.  We also will be looking at the Chihuly art found at the garden.  

Children should wear the RED ZION T-SHIRT and uniform bottoms. Please dress for the weather and walking.  We will be outside most of the time. Please BRING A SACK LUNCH, no peanut or peanut butter please.  Please pack your child's lunch is something that can be thrown away as we can't carry a lunch box with us in the garden. 


We plan to eat in the provided room inside after the class then go on a self guided tour.  We will return to school around 2:30.

Thank you to the chaperones: Mrs. Horn, Mrs. Coad, Mrs. Johnson, Mrs. Gaffney, and Mrs Maddick.  You are welcome to join us for chapel or come at 8:30.  We will be leaving right after chapel at 8:45.

we will take them to chapel on October 24!
 
On Wednesday, October 24 we will be having a special offering.  In honor of Drew Albrittons’ 9th birthday, we will be collecting superhero items that will be delivered to Friends of Kids with Cancer.

Drew was a preschooler here at Zion who bravely fought cancer and now is with the biggest superhero of all, Jesus! 

Please bring your superhero items to chapel on Wednesday, October 24.  Action figures, costumes, toys, movies, backpacks, Lego sets, video games, shirts, or any items with a super hero theme are all welcome. 

Service Party:  October 15 
We will be doing a service project.  We will be make care packages for college students.  Thank you for signing up for items.  If you haven't signed up there is room to still sign up. PLEASE  bring an item to include in the package ON MONDAY.  I want to put together 25 packages.  I need 25 individual packages of the listed items.  Thank you


Parent Helpers for the Service Project are: Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Owens.  Please help us from 1-3.  Thank you.
Red Ribbon Week will be October 22 - 26.
This is the week that people and communities unite and take a visible stand against substance abuse.  Show your personal commitment to a drug-free and healthy lifestyle through the symbol of the Red Ribbon and these fun dress days.

*Regular dress code applies to all dress days except for the special day’s theme

Monday, October 22: 
Wear red, white, and blue. T-shirts, regular dress bottoms

Tuesday, October 23:  
Wear your favorite sports team shirt. Regular dress bottoms

Wednesday, October 24:  
BRING SUPERHERO ITEMS FOR CHAPEL
Wear superhero shirt. Regular dress bottoms

Thursday, October 25:  
Crazy hair day. Regular dress code

Friday, October 26:  
Spirit shirt and jeans

I am excited about welcoming our student teacher, Mrs. Sarah Duffy, on Monday.


She will be sitting in on some conferences if you would prefer her not to observe your conference please let me know.

Faith Family Prayer Time
We meet with our faith families each month.  This month we spent 15 minutes in prayer.  The prayer time was led by the 6th,7th,and 8th graders.





We made scientific poster to show what a plant needs.

We studied Dale Chihuly this week.
We look forward to see some of his art at the Botanical Gardens next week.
