I hope you carve some time out of the hustle and bustle of this season to have special Advent devotions with your family. Help prepare your hearts for Jesus this Advent.

Zion's Lessons and Carols is this Sunday it is another way to take sometime to focus on Jesus. This service last about one hour and 15 minutes and focuses on Jesus coming into our dark world to bring light. It is Sunday December 6 at 7:00 pm.

Lutheran High School's Student Council invites you to visit with Santa. From prior experience, this is a great Santa and there are few if no lines. Pictures are taken and posted to a website and you can take your own photos as well.

ST. NICK NITE
COME AND SEE ST. NICK!

Lutheran High School invites children and their parents to

"St. Nick Nite" on Friday, Dec. 11, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Lutheran High School, 5100 Mexico Road.

In addition to enjoying boys' and girls' Cougar basketball games, you'll have the opportunity to have your picture taken with "Jolly Old St. Nick!" Unwrapped toys or monetary donations will be collected to benefit the Ablaze! Lutheran Sidewalk Sunday School ministries.

We celebrated St. Nicholas in the classroom on Friday, December 4. This is a German tradition that I grew up with and I like to share with my students. On the night of December 5 you put your shoes outside and St. Nicholas comes and fills your shoes with candy, fruit, and coins. I want to give you a heads up in case your child puts his/her shoes outside on Saturday night.

ADVENT SERVICE: We will lead worship WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 16 at 10 and 7. We will begin practicing in the church for our service on Monday. PLEASE continue to practice your child's individual part focusing in on loud and slow! For the morning service the class should wear their uniforms and for the evening wear church clothes or uniform, no jeans please. Please have your child to the church basement on Wednesday night at 6:50.

We continue to collect money for our Christmas service project.
I would like to provide each child with a gift ($15-$20) and give each family a care package, there are 7 families with 19 children.
Please sign the permission form in the Friday Folder and return on Monday December 7.
If you have a background check and can drive and chaperone the field trip please mark it on the permission slip. We leave at 9:30 and will need your help wrapping gifts till 11:00 you are welcome to stay for the little party afterwards as well.

I have told the class that they should ask for special chores to earn money to donate to our Christmas Service Project. Thank you for helping to teach your about working, earning, and sharing.

A peek at our week including the Adventures of our Christmas Monkey!

We are learning about an celebrating Advent with special devotions, ornaments for our tree and taking turns extinguishing the candles on the Advent wreath.

On Monday we were surprised by the room decorated for Christmas!

We also found a monkey and a note...

We named the monkey Mr. Nillson and began telling him about Jesus and Christmas.

On Tuesday he helped us with math meeting.

On Wednesday Mr. Nillson made a friend and challenged us to make an new friend and play with someone we don't usually play with at recess.

On Thursday Mr Nillson and his friend were reading a book about Jesus birth. He told his friend he was a good reader and challenged us to give someone a compliment.

On Friday Mr. Nillson surprised us by dusting our room. He challenged us to surprise someone by cleaning up!

Everyday we journal about our Christmas Monkey and tell about his adventures.

We are making a nativity set.

We sanded the wood blocks.

We painted the blocks black.

We colored the people for our nativity set.

Next week we will begin to glue the people on the wood.

We also are playing with nativity sets!

Of course we did school work as well...

...writing verbs in a poem.

...sorting common and proper nouns.

...using the hundreds chart to help us learn about counting by ones and tens.

...writing Christmas lists.

... working with action verbs.

... using a computer to make a habitat.

... using shapes to cover a triangle different ways.

St. Nick made an early stop to our classroom and delivered us traditional gifts, an orange, a piece of candy, a coin, and a pencil (a version of a switch because we are all a little naughty :) )

After reading a book about St. Nicholas we took off our shoes...
