God has marked us at our baptisms.  He makes us His and promises to never let go.  As we journey through Lent let us focus on the price that was paid for us.  To claim us God sacrificed His only Son.  Praise be to God for His everlasting love for us.

I hope your family has had the opportunity to use the Lent worship center.  May this be a reminder to spend time as a family around God’s Word and in prayer.  Thank you to David Bernhardt my father in law, for cutting out the cross pieces for us to put together!

NO SCHOOL Friday February 12 and Monday February 15.

I am continue to be a little more picky with grading.  I am expecting more from the students.  I do expect that sentences are writing correctly and that math problems are written correctly.  Please check your child's work to see how they are doing.  I am disappointed with the number of CAR, Correct And Return, papers.  Please look over math papers and maybe say, "I see something wrong or missing" and have your child fix the paper before it comes to school.  If your child has a lot of CAR in centers check to see way and remind them to make sure they have correct sentences before turning the paper in.

JUMP ROPE FOR HEART:  FIRST GRADERS WILL PARTICIPATE ON Friday FEBRUARY 19, 8:10-9:10.  PLEASE SEND IN ANY SPONSOR FORMS AND MONEY BY FRIDAY.  MRS. STEINBACHER COULD USE SOME PARENT VOLUNTEERS.  IF YOU CAN HELP PLEASE EMAIL HER THIS WEEKEND. msteinbacher@zionharvester.org

SIX FLAGS READING PROGRAM:  We are participating in the Six Flags Reading Program.  Don't forget READING LOGS will be DUE FEBRUARY 26. YOU MAY TURN THEM IN WHEN YOU GET FINISHED.

GRANDPARENT'S / SPECIAL FRIEND DAY - Save the Date: We invited all Grandparents or special adult friend to attend school on March 11, from 8-12.  More information and invitation to come!

Our class will be doing a play on Grandparents/Special Friend Day.  Please let me know if your child will not be at school that day so I don't assign them a part.

FRIDAY NIGHT, February 12, 2016

is JUNIOR COUGAR PINK OUT.  Come see some great basketball games, girls 6:00 and boys 7:30.  Come and support Senior Natalia, who is battling brain cancer.  Wear pink and participate in the half time games for elementary students.  Eat dinner at the food trucks and support the fundraisers for Natalia!

 Our class is Blessed to Serve, as part of our Valentine Celebration,  baskets of love were put together to give to the two Lutheran High students who have brain cancer.  Thank you for the donations from the room parent fund, the Schmidt family, and the Oswald family.  I will take the gifts and valentines to the students tomorrow.

Playing doubles plus one memory

 We made our own Lent worship centers.

 Here is our classroom worship center.  The class decided to start with all the candles lit and then do one less each week.  This will help us remember we are getting closer to Jesus death when all the candles are out.

We made Valentine Self Portrait Boxes

 

We made weather tools to help us learn about the weather.

 It was very windy!

We then recorded our weather findings.

 Due to the cold temperatures we had plenty of indoor recess.
The class likes indoor recess tubs and activities.

 We learned about prayers and how a pretzel was made in Lent in the 1600's for children to remind them to pray in lent.

We then wrote 40 things to pray for, one on each strip of paper.

 We put the papers together to form a chain.

We helped each other get finished with the chains.  I just happened to have my camera when Jeremiah thanked William with a high five.

 Now we have a chain to pray for one thing each day in LENT.

 We then ate pretzels!!

In Writing we made our stories come alive by adding speech bubbles!

 Centers:

We made valentines for school helpers.

 We worked on retell in reading groups.

We described popcorn using adjectives!

We learned that in Lent we remember Jesus life and that he died for our sins.

We wrote our sins on black paper.  Sin makes our hearts black.

We nailed the sins to the cross.

Jesus took our sins to the cross.

We was nailed to the cross and died.

 We will look at our sins on the cross this Lent. 
We await Easter and our sins being being gone from the cross and Jesus rising from the dead.
The cross will look different after Easter. :)

VALENTINE SERVICE PROJECT CELEBRATION

We made flowers for shut ins.
We made cards for shut ins, Natalia, and Derek.
We passed valentines to our classmates.
We ate applesauce, cuties, and juice.
We had a great time!
