February 20, 2015

"Sign us with ashes, merciful God,

children of dust, as to dust we return.

Sign us with ashes, merciful God,

mark us and make us your own."

God has marked us at our baptisms.  He makes us His and promises to never let go.  As we journey through Lent let us focus on the price that was paid for us.  To claim us God sacrificed His only Son.  Praise be to God for His everlasting love for us.

I hope your family has had the opportunity to use the Lent worship center.  May this be a reminder to spend time as a family around God’s Word and in prayer.  Thank you to Paul Trinklein, my dad, for cutting out the cross pieces for us to put together!

YEAR BOOK ORDER FORM IN FRIDAY FOLDER: MUST ORDER ONLINE BEFORE MARCH 6

GRANDPARENT'S DAY is MARCH 13.  This day is for Grandparents or another special adult to spend the morning with us at school.  This is a half day of school.  An invitation will be sent home in next week's Friday folder. In the invitation is a schedule of the mornings events.

The grandparents and special friends should go to the church basement. The students go to our classroom like a normal day.  The adults will begin the day with refreshments, devotions, and then each class will come over for a small 'talent' share.  The adults will then come to the classrooms where there will be many activities for them as well as time to visit the book fair.  We will then all go together to a closing chapel service.

Please fill out the permission form (also coming home next Friday in the Friday folder) so that I know who is taking your child home from school on Friday, March 13, Grandparent's Day, as it is a HALF day.
ZION AUCTION will be held at Old Hickory Golf Club on March 27, 2015., it is a great night.  It would be fun to have several first grade tables attend!! Please look at the one of a kind first grade artwork that is available to bid on at the auction!

I am beginning to get a little more picky with grading.  I am expecting more from the students.  I do expect that sentences are writing correctly and that math problems are written correctly.  Please check your child's work to see how they are doing.  I am disappointed with the number of CAR, Correct And Return, papers.  Please look over math papers and maybe say, "I see something wrong or missing" and have your child fix the paper before it comes to school.  If your child has a lot of CAR in centers check to see way and remind them to make sure they have correct sentences before turning the paper in.

Have a wonderful weekend.  As Pastor Rouland said at the Ash Wednesday service, Say yes to Jesus and His invitation to follow Him. Go on a journey with Him this Lent: Make weekend worship a priority, Try a Wednesday Lent service, Do daily devotions as a family.

In HIM,
Amy Bernhardt

Look at our pictures!!!

This is our class auction donation!!
It is 20 x 24 inch canvas.
Each child painted a flower for the one of a kind artwork.
Ask your child which flower they painted!
We made Lent worship centers.
We stained the wood.
We helped each other.
We glued the pieces together.

When Lent is over you can take out the candles and hang the cross on the wall.

We worked on cutting circles as we study Wassily Kandinsky.

We are making concentric circles.
We are happy to show that we are marked with the sign of the cross.
 We belong to Jesus!
 INDOOR RECESS

We are learning facts by playing a timed flashcard game.
The other first grade is winning right now with 2:26 minutes.

Thank you Mr. Collins for the fun Chinese New Year gifts!

We learned congruent shapes.
