March 28, 2014

What a wonderful theme for this year!  As we continue through Lent we remember the price that Jesus paid to give us a Future with a Hope.  As we pray and support Drew Albritton's family may we remember that God's plan is for us to have a future in heaven and that He made that plan happen with His Son's death and resurrection.  May we be comforted knowing that Drew is living his future with Jesus in heaven.

I encourage you to keep the Albritton Family in your prayers.  If you want to send them a note or card you will find their address in our school directory.

ACHIEVEMENT TEST NEXT WEEK
Please make sure your child gets a good night sleep and eats a healthy breakfast.  This is the first time the students will be experiencing this type of testing.  It is important that they learn the process and get used to this type of evaluation tool.  Although in first grade the accuracy of the assessment maybe compromised due to the limited exposure to this type of test.  The test is another tool to help assess students achievement.  It is good to practice taking these types of tests and will give some sort of a baseline for future years.  We will be spending a lot of time this week talking and learning about taking tests as well as taking the achievement tests.  I always stress to just do your best.  Please don't put any pressure on your child about this test.  You probably don't even need to mention the tests to your child.

REPORT CARDS are in the Friday Folders.  If you have any question please contact me.

OPTIONAL PARENT CONFERENCE:  If you have received an email from me requesting a conference or if you have concerns and would like a third quarter parent conference please go the google doc I have set up.  You can access the doc with this link and sign up for a date and time.  These are optional conferences and if you don't hear from me specifically about meeting, these conferences are your choice.  I wanted to make them available to everyone.  This conference would be to discuss your child's progress so far this year.

PLEASE SIGN UP BY MONDAY so I can plan accordingly.

Take a peek at our week!

This week we measured things with paper clips.
Ww worked together to measure.
Putting down the tape bridge for our Monet painting.

We painted like Monet using lots of paint.

We layered the paint making the picture look blurring in the style of impressionist painting.

We used different color to show shading and movement in the painting.
We played a Math game helping us learn sums of 10.
WE DID AN EXPERIMENT WHERE WE MADE GAS!!!
We put baking soda into a balloon.

We measured 1/2 cup vinegar.

We poured the vinegar into the water bottle.

We carefully put the balloon on top of the water bottle.

We lifted up the balloon so that the baking soda would fall into the vinegar.

We watched as...

...the balloon began to be filled with air.

When you mix baking soda and vinegar it makes a gas.

We shared what we did on Spring Break.

We are working on Small Moment books that we will turn into video stories.
We use the ipod to make the video story.

We continue to do Lent devotions ...

... and focus on Jesus.

March 14, 2014

This week we learned that God gives food to the birds and beautiful clothes to the flowers.  God loves us so much more than the birds and the flowers.  We need not worry, but TRUST God as He gives us what we need.  We thank God that He provides for our earthly needs and that He sent Jesus to die and rise for us, He provides for our eternal needs!
May we continue to keep our focus on Christ this Lent.

"Sign us with ashes, merciful God,

children of dust, as to dust we return.

Sign us with ashes, merciful God,

mark us and make us your own."

God has marked us at our baptisms.  He makes us His and promises to never let go.  As we journey through Lent let us focus on the price that was paid for us.  To claim us God sacrificed His only Son.  Praise be to God for His everlasting love for us.

I hope your family has had the opportunity to use the Lent worship center.  May this be a reminder to spend time as a family around God’s Word and in prayer.  Thank you to Paul Trinklein, my dad, for cutting out the cross pieces for us to put together!

In Science we tested the viscosity of 5 liquids.
We applied the scientific method and observed the results.
We then recording our findings.

We put together words to make compound words.

We sanded the wood pieces of the Lent crosses.

We stained the crosses.

We glued the pieces together.

We are learning about regrouping with pennies and dimes.
Partner Reading during indoor recess.

We can do this doubles plus one game in 2 minutes and 55 seconds.
We observed one cup of liquid in different shaped containers.
We concluded that liquids have no shape of their own.

We are working on writing how to paragraphs.

We wrote out sins on black paper.
We nailed our sins to a cross.

We hung the cross up to remind us this Lent that Jesus suffered and died on a cross to take away our sins.
