Sign us with ashes, Merciful God,
Children of dust, as to dust we return.
Sign us with ashes, Merciful God,
Mark us and make us your own."
God has marked us at our baptisms. He makes us His and promises to never let go. As we journey through Lent let us focus on the price that was paid for us. To claim us God sacrificed His only Son. Praise be to God for His everlasting love for us.
Lent began March 5 with Ash Wednesday. Lent is my favorite time of the church year. I like the Lent Church Services on Wednesdays after school. I have a tradition that if your family is going to church at 3:30 I invite my students to come sit with me if they would like, so if your child wants to come sit with me send them on up.
(I sit in the front of church)
This year Zion will have a 3:30 and 7:00 service.
During Lent I try to recommit myself to personal devotions and prayer. This is a time to focus on Jesus and His great love for us. Jesus gave His life so that I can live.
There is nothing I can do to gain forgiveness and eternal life it is God's gift through Jesus! So instead of giving something up for Lent try doing the opposite and adding something ... maybe commit to Wednesday night church, do personal devotions, do family devotions, or make weekend worship a priority in your family. I know your faith life will be strengthened.
I hope your family will use the Lent worship center. May this be a reminder to spend time as a family around God’s Word and in prayer.
The cross can be used like an advent wreath, but you light all candles on the first week and light one less each week as we move closer to Good Friday. Lent begins on a Wednesday so you will light the candles and light one less on Wednesdays. I hope this helps your family focus your thoughts to Christ this Lent. After Lent you may take the candles out (Save them for next year) and hang the cross up with the plain side out. Then it is a year long reminder of our SAVIOR!!
Thank you to Dr. Bernhardt, for cutting out the cross pieces for us to put together!
