WEEK OF THE YOUNG CHILD

People were also bringing babies to Jesus for him to place his hands on them. When the disciples saw this, they rebuked them.
But Jesus called the children to him and said, Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”

Luke 18:15-17

I treasure each child in my class and I thank you for bringing them to Zion.  Here at Zion your child is given the blessing of learning about their Savior.  What a wonderful place to be!

Take a small peek at some of the things we learned this week!
Dress Rehearsal

In ACTION

Magic House comes to us and presented a hands on activity,
Saving the Great Outdoors!
Thank you to parents who came to help!

We learned how to reduce waste.
Did you know that if you used a  brown bag every day at school for a year  the trash would fill a school bus?
One way to reduce waste is to use a lunch box.

Pastor Reitz had a popular center where the students learned about sorting trash at the dump using electric magnets.
This helps pull out and separate trash.

We learned about water pollution and how oil hurts birds.  We learned about oil spill clean up and then we cleaned up an oil spill.

We learned about water filtration.  We filtered dirty water to make it clean.

We learned about recycling paper.  We even made paper!

After the Magic House we did a science journal telling about what we learned.

We continue to use tiles to help us build our spelling words.

We made a graph to help us illustrate our math facts.

We played a fun game of Four in a Row to help us practice the oy/oi sound,
 We even ate Chips Ahoy

We made a water cycle bracelet...yellow=sun, clear=water vapor, white=cloud, blue=precipitation, green=land

Here is a water cycle bracelet.

We made the water cycle in a bottle.

We watched the cloud form and watched it rain from the cap.

Read what we wrote about the experiment on on Science sheet.
Mrs. Helmkamp is teaching how to do
"Storyjumper" on the computer.
This is a website that helps the students write and illustrate a story.   We will continue working on these during computer center next week.

We have been working on writing paragraphs.  The class is doing a great job!

I am still trying to come up with something our class can do to help the Albritton Family and show them our love and support.  I know that they have not been to the grocery store for a long time and there is a website to sign up for meals.  If anyone has any ideas of how to provide christian support to this family please let me know.  At the very least keep them in your prayers.

Christ is Risen, HE IS RISEN INDEED!
Continue the celebration of Easter this weekend in church!!

In HIM,

Seeing changes outside, but wonder what is happening inside the walls?  Lots! Mark Lekar, Marc Debrick, and others will be conducting tours to members and school parents interested in seeing the progress inside the school’s construction zone.
The tours will take place this Sunday, April 27 from 10:30 – 12:30 pm  The building will be open during those times and we will ask entry into the new buildings to be through the school hallway doors adjacent to the kitchen and Miss Limback’s room (inside the main school building).  Please, no access by crossing any fence lines (too many obstacles and possibly mud if you cross a fence). You will be free to roam once inside and several folks will be present to answer questions. Please be cognizant that this is a construction site and all smaller children must be kept in check to avoid any possible injuries – we want all to visit and enjoy the excitement but caution that all must be careful while the site is open.

We have been working on being independent at centers.  Here is a look at our centers this week.

We have new Reading Buddies!

We enjoy working on the computers.
Practicing Pronouns
We can illustrate a poem, showing we can read and comprehend the sentences.

We still practice spelling each week.

We can write a paragraph with a topic sentence, 3 detail sentences, and a closing sentence.

We know the ar, or, and ir sounds.

We made a book for Mrs. Schmidt to help her celebrate Administrative Professional Day,
First Grade, First Grade What Do You See, Mrs. Schmidt Doing?

We love "SPARKLE"!

We are practicing working with each other in groups.
In this activity the students were given the problem to divide the blocks evenly with the group.
The tricky part was making them even and having extras!

We are learning about weather, here is our song about different types of clouds!
We made Cloud People.

We used cotton balls to show the different cloud types.

We even put legs on the clouds to show if the clouds were low or high in the sky.
