January 27, 2010

I can't believe we have been in school 100 days.  This class has been such a blessing to me as well as others.  These children are growing every day in knowledge, friendships, and most importantly in God's Grace.  We had a great celebration today, thank you to Mrs. Hoehner and Mrs. Oswald who planned the awesome 100th Day Celebration.  Thank you to all the moms, dads, and grandparents who came to help us celebrate!  We collected 218 baby food jars for the Thrive Crisis Nursery.  What a blessing!

God says, “I have called you by your name; you are mine.” Isaiah 43:1

God promises to always love us, forgive us, give us life and be with us.

If you like chili and hotdogs and are looking for an easy lunch after the class sings at Chapel of the Cross simply drive to Lutheran High for their Chili Dinner.  You could get a meal and a tour of LHS!!

One more thing on Sunday January 29...at 6:00 Zion is hosting RED LETTER JESUS.  This looks to be an interesting performance.  If you would like more information visit www.gospelofjohn.com

- We are in need of more pencils!  If you have some please send them in.

BOOK ORDERS:  If you are interested in ordering books please order on line by January 27.

This week in the Friday folders we are giving you an invitation.  This is an invitation for you to give to someone else to our Zion School OPEN HOUSE.  Please tell your friends about Zion and invite them to come to our OPEN HOUSE on February 12, 12:00-3.  Let them see the wonderful family your child has here at Zion and share with them the excellent education Zion provides.  Word of mouth is the best advertising we can do!

It was great seeing the DADS this Wednesday.  As Pastor Reitz told us at chapel, DADS have an important job, more than being the enforcer DADS are the spiritual leader of the household.  It is interesting that the biggest influence for children to stay active in church as adults is if their dad's sing in church.  So DADS I look forward to seeing you and hearing you this Sunday!

Enjoy the pictures from Donuts with Dads!

January 13, 201

This week we have been learning that we need to follow Jesus.  Mr. Marolf told us in chapel that we need to share Jesus with others and tell others the Good News that Jesus is the Savior.  Our class has been doing a great job of following Jesus and showing Jesus love to others.  This week we received a thank you letter from an older couple that we had been praying for the wife who was sick.  In the thank you note was $20 and a message to buy something for the kids.  I read the class the note and their were shocked that someone  sent money to thank them for praying.  I asked the class for some ideas of what we could do with  the money.  There were two suggestions from the kids that everyone quickly agreed on... to buy more stamps and paper to send cards to more people and put it in the offering for Giving Gardens.  So that is what we will do.  This is a very loving and giving class not one person thought of themselves but put others first.  You should be very proud!

BERNHARDT to put on the gloves and take the other teachers down :)

Last week I talked about the gift of a Christian Education.  This week I want to tell you about another gift my parents gave to me, it was the gift of weekly worship together.  When I was growing up there was no question what we would be doing on Sunday morning.  We would be in church and Bible Study or Sunday School.  We went to church as a family, 8:00.  I didn't always like getting up for early church and many times as a teenager I begged to drive myself to a later service.  But my parents insisted that we went to church together. I still remember being on vacation and finding a local church to attend.  Yes, I think I would have rather got up and swam some more on vacation but on Sunday we went to church.  Wow, what an impression.  God is most important.  My parents showed me that in their actions.  God is worth one hour even on vacation.  I continue to worship on a weekly basis.  Jon and I  try to always go to church as a family.  But times are different and my girls often have games on Sunday.  Yet we ALWAYS make sure that church is part of our weekend.  Even if it means going on Monday night at Chapel of the Cross.  I am thankful for the opportunity to worship weekly for it is in worship that God comes to us and fills us up for the coming week, where God forgives us and gives us new life, where we stand with the body of believes and are built up, where we hear God's word explained to us, where we belong.

I hope you enjoy worship this weekend with your family.
