Mrs. Bernhardt's First Grade: February 8, 2013

It is hard to believe that Lent begins next week with Ash Wednesday. Lent is my favorite time of the church year. I like the Wednesday after school church services, and I have to admit I like the meals following. During Lent I try to recommit myself to personal devotions and prayer. This is a time to focus on Jesus and His great love for us. Jesus gave His life so that I can life.

For it is by GRACE you have been saved through faith and this is not from yourselves it is a gift of God, not a result of works so that no one can boast. Ephesians 2:8-9

There is nothing I can do to gain forgiveness and eternal life it is God's gift through Jesus! So instead of giving something up for Lent try doing the opposite and adding something ... maybe commit to Wednesday night church, attend Sunday Bible Classes, do personal devotions, do family devotions, or make weekend worship a priority in your family. I know your faith life will be strengthened.

Don’t forget this Sunday is OPEN HOUSE 1-3. Tell your friends and neighbors about our AWESOME school.

We will celebrate Valentine’s Day on Thursday. Please send your child’s Valentines in the morning. We have made our boxes and look forward to giving out the Valentines in the morning. Our party is in the afternoon. If you can help please let Chris Tomlinson know.

We will have no school next Friday, February 15 as teachers have meetings and no school Monday February 18 to honor President’s Day.

ACHIEVEMENT TESTS are March 18-22 (sorry for the wrong date last week)

YEARBOOK ORDERS: please see the email from Mrs. Adams about school Yearbook orders which are due February 20.

SAVE BOTTLE CAPS: I would like to do an art project with plastic bottle caps in April. I will need a lot. Please save plastic caps off of water bottles, milk and orange juice, any plastic cap any size and color. Thanks

SIX FLAGS 600 MINUTES of READING DUE: February 27

LENT WORSHIP CENTERS: On Tuesday of next week each child will be making a worship center for your home to help you will Lent Devotions. This will come home on Tuesday, the cross can be used like an advent wreath, as you light a candle each week till Easter. I hope this helps your family focus your thoughts to Christ this Lent. If you need a lent family devotion book please let me know.

As we prepare to focus on Christ and His passion, may I encourage you to join one of the new Sunday Morning Bible Classes. This Sunday Zion is offering 4 Bible classes. My husband and I will be attending the class on the book of John, I invite you to join us and sit at our table. Bible class is at 9:30 in the Church Basement. Sunday School is in the main school. Signs will be up in the church basement directing you to the different studies.
