February 22, 2013

Have mercy on me, O God,
    according to your steadfast love;
according to your abundant mercy
    blot out my transgressions.

Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,

    and cleanse me from my sin!

Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
    wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

Psalm 51: 1-2 and 7

Whenever there is a fresh snow fall I think of this Psalm.  David had sinned and taken another man's wife for his own, not only that but he had that man killed.  When David was confronted with his sin he turned to God and wrote this Psalm.  Our God is steadfast in His love and abundant in His mercy.  There is no sin that is too big for Him to forgive.  He and He alone can take away our sins and clean us so that we will be whiter than snow.

A look ahead:
For the most part we will be finishing up last week and then begin new work.

On Monday Invitations to Grandparent's Day will come home in the homework folder.  GRANDPARENT'S DAY is MARCH 8.  This day is for Grandparents or another special adult to spend the morning with us at school.  This is a half day of school.  In the invitation is a schedule of the mornings events.

Please fill out the permission form (also sent home Monday in homework folder) so that I know who is taking your child home from school on Friday, March 8, Grandparent's Day.

This past week's papers I will save and send home with next week's work in the Friday Folders.  I will ask the students for their church attendance and will mark it.

I wanted to share with you a short video the class made after studying the Bible Story, "Jesus Calms the Storm".

I hope you enjoyed your second 4 day weekend.  It will be tough to be in school for a whole week.

I hope that you are using your Lent Worship Centers and I pray that you are in church this weekend!

Amy

"Sign us with ashes, merciful God,
children of dust, as to dust we return.

Sign us with ashes, merciful God,
mark us and make us your own."

God has marked us at our baptisms.  He makes us His and promises to never let go.  As we journey through Lent let us focus on the price that was paid for us.  To claim us God sacrificed His only Son.  Praise be to God for His everlasting love for us.

I hope your family has had the opportunity to use the Lent worship center.  May this be a reminder to spend time as a family around God’s Word and in prayer.  Thank you to Paul Trinklein, my dad, for cutting out the cross pieces for us to put together!

It is hard to believe that Lent begins next week with Ash Wednesday.  Lent is my favorite time of the church year.  I like the Wednesday after school church services, and I have to admit I like the meals following.  During Lent I try to recommit myself to personal devotions and prayer.  This is a time to focus on Jesus and His great love for us.  Jesus gave His life so that I can life.

For it is by GRACE you have been saved through faith and this is not from yourselves it is a gift of God, not a result of works so that no one can boast.  Ephesians 2:8-9

There is nothing I can do to gain forgiveness and eternal life it is God's gift through Jesus!  So instead of giving something up for Lent try doing the opposite and adding something ... maybe commit to Wednesday night church, attend Sunday Bible Classes, do personal devotions, do family devotions, or make weekend worship a priority in your family.  I know your faith life will be strengthened.
