February 24, 2012

"Sign us with ashes, merciful God,
children of dust, as to dust we return.

Sign us with ashes, merciful God,
mark us and make us your own."

God has marked us at our baptisms.  He makes us His and promises to never let go.  As we journey through Lent let us focus on the price that was paid for us.  To claim us God sacrificed His only Son.  Praise be to God for His everlasting love for us.

I hope your family has had the opportunity to use the Lent worship center.  May this be a reminder to spend time as a family around God’s Word and in prayer.  Thank you to Paul Trinklein, my dad and Isaiah's grandpa, for cutting out the cross pieces for us to put together!

In this time of Lent I do hope you make  time to go to the Wednesday Lent services and keep faithful Sunday worship.
I INVITE you to attend one of our new Sunday Bible Studies.  I really encourage you to attend the Creation/Evolution study that meets in the church basement.  The introduction week was awesome and I hope you can join.

February 16, 2012

It is hard to believe that Lent begins next week.  Lent is my favorite time of the church year.  I like the Wednesday after school church services, and I have to admit I like the meals following.  During Lent I try to recommit myself to personal devotions and prayer.  This is a time to focus on Jesus and His great love for us.  Jesus gave His life so that I can life.

For it is by GRACE you have been saved through faith and this is not from yourselves it is a gift of God, not a result of works so that no one can boast.  Ephesians 2:8-9

There is nothing I can do to gain forgiveness and eternal life it is God's gift through Jesus!  So instead of giving something up for Lent try doing the opposite and adding something ... maybe commit to Wednesday night church, attend Sunday Bible Classes, do personal devotions, do family devotions, or make weekend worship a priority in your family.  I know your faith life will be strengthened.

No School Friday and Monday! Enjoy the days off.

For God so loved the world that
He gave His one and only Son
that whoever believes in Him will not perish,
but have eternal life.  John 3:16

This week my daugheter's confirmation we studied the third commandment, Remember the sabbath day by keeping it holy.  Pastor Reitz told us that in church we worship together as God’s children.  In church God fills us with His love and forgiveness.  It is then up to us to carry that love and forgiveness out into our week and share it with others.  This week we learned that Jesus wants us to be Fishers of Men.  May we share with others God’s love and forgiveness.
Look and read as we tell you how we will fish for men!
Quentin, "I will tell others about Jesus."
Ana, "I will tell friends about Jesus."
Jessika, "I will love others."
Isaiah, "I will tell other people and go to church."

Chloe, "I will share the love of Jesus."
Samuel, "I will help others."
Jonathan, "I will show God's love."
Caitlyn, "I will be helpful."
Jack, "I will tell stories about Jesus."

Ava is a Fisher of Men
Kyle, "I will tell others that Jesus loves is for everybody not just certain people."
Matthew, "I will share the love of Jesus."
Luke, " I will pray for others who need help."

Aiden, "I will pray for others."
Sam, "I will help people."Grace, "I will help my family."Brooke, "I will tell people Jesus loves you!"
Adam, "I will tell others that Jesus died to take away their sin."
Ellie, "I will pray."

THANK YOU for bringing your child to church last weekend.  The children sounded great.  It really tugs at your heartstrings to hear them praise our Savoir.  Thank you for changing schedules to have them sing 2 weeks in a row!  Our next opportunity to sing in Church is Sunday, March 4 at the 11:00 service!

OPEN HOUSE: This Sunday Zion is hosting our school open house from 1-3.  Invite others to see what we are all about!

I have started to expect more from the class.  I want them to start becoming SECOND GRADERS.  I will be stricter when grading memory.  I will expect correct sentences when writing.  I will be looking for them to transfer knowledge of spelling words and patterns into their everyday work.  You may see more correct and return or redo sheets.

If you have not been in the habit of attending Bible Study this maybe the weekend to start.  There are many new Bible Studies being offered.  I am very interesting in the CREATION/EVOLUTION study.  Come to the church basement, get a donut, send the kids to Sunday School, and attend a Bible Study.  I will be looking for you, come join me at my table!

We predicted if the groundhog would see his shadow.

We 'became' groundhogs and woke up on Groundhog's Day.

We went outside and saw our shadows.
We went back to sleep to hibernate.
There will be 6 more weeks of winter.
